The city of Mechelen is taking an important step in tackling the shortage of swimming facilities. In collaboration with Swimwise, four mobile swimming pools will be deployed to create additional swimming capacity in the city.
With this collaboration, Mechelen is literally bringing the swimming pool to its residents. The first facility will open in September. The swimming pools will be located at strategic locations, including sports and recreation sites, so that schools, clubs and local residents will once again have easy access to swimming facilities.
Flexible solution for a real need
Many cities are struggling with outdated infrastructure and growing demand for swimming water. With our moveable swimming pools, we offer a quick and scalable solution.
“With these swimming units, we create capacity where it is most needed,” says Christophe Lecocque, director of Swimwise. “We bring the swimming pool to the residents, not the other way around.”
Temporary solution, immediate impact
The mobile swimming pools are a flexible interim solution while the city works on structural plans for the future. In the meantime, they provide immediate breathing space in swimming education and local sports provision.
With this collaboration, Mechelen confirms its ambition to make swimming accessible and affordable for everyone. For Swimwise, this is another important step in our mission: to provide high-quality swimming water where it is needed.

Creating capacity where the pressure is greatest
Many local authorities are faced with rising demand for swimming facilities, outdated infrastructure and limited investment opportunities. Mobile swimming solutions make it possible to expand capacity in a modular way, temporarily reorient it or scale it up in phases.
Swimwise pools are energy-efficient, thermally insulated, and fully equipped with supporting infrastructure such as changing rooms and sanitary facilities. They use natural swimming water, without chlorine in the pool itself. This way, they function as fully-fledged swimming facilities that can be quickly put into operation.
A scalable model for local sports policy
The collaboration with Mechelen demonstrates how local authorities can respond pragmatically to acute needs without losing sight of their long-term vision. Mobile swimming facilities offer policy flexibility: they create breathing space within swimming education, reduce waiting lists and make local sports facilities accessible again.
For Swimwise, this project fits within a clear mission: to bring swimming water where it is needed and thus contribute to accessible, affordable and sustainable local sports policy.
